Chances are, you probably stumbled upon this funny commercial featuring a spokesperson dressed like a butthole.

Hello Tushy Bidet Commercial
The famous shot from Hello Tushy commercial (teehee)

That commercial, created by the company Hello Tushy, certainly made me giggle and peaked my interest in the product it was promoting -- the Tushy bidet- an attachment that goes right on your toilet.

With an emboldened desire to try something new for my bum, I decided it was time to upgrade my toilet experience -- with Hello Tushy’s Spa Bidet attachment. From the unboxing to the installation to the general feel of using this interesting product, I simply HAD to write this review and tell you all about it.

Now, I have done several reviews in the past about health tools and products that can help save you time, money, or can boost your overall well-being….and seeing how the Hello Tushy bidet was claiming to be so uber amazing, it needed my discerning opinion. So, I bought the Tushy Spa bidet attachment and gave it a go.

First off, are bidets eco-friendly?

One burning question I had in my mind as I was researching the novel concept of owning my very own bidet was it’s impact on the environment. Does it really help with our overall carbon footprint? Well, after some reading and research, the answer is…yes.

For the pure and simple fact that using a bidet definitely reduces the amount of toilet paper you actually need to use (Americans uses about 34 million rolls every day), which means less flushes, less trees being destroyed for toilet paper production, and less use of chemicals to break down the flushed toilet paper.

Why are bidets considered healthy?

are bidets eco friendly and healthy?

One of my favorite lines that Hello Tushy likes to use is “if a bird pooped on you, would you wipe it off with dry paper or would you wash it with water?”

hopefully, your answer would be along the lines of washing with water. Your butt pretty much needs a similar treatment.

Now, bidets are not only considered healthy for the environment, but it also is healthy for your butt health.

and after much research and general trial-and-error on my part, I tend to agree.

I suffer from really bad hemorrhoids (I know, TMI, but hey, this post is about a butt cleaner so what did you expect? lol!). Like, the thought of using toilet paper to wipe after a rigorous poop session was just painful, and my butt was NOT happy in the least.

and I know I’m not the only one feeling the burn of toilet paper on my bum. 30 million annual reported cases to be exact.

But eliminating wiping with dry paper and instead utilizing water was pretty soothing and actually helped keep my hemorrhoids at bay. Not only that, using a bidet has been show to help prevent UTIs and yeast infections, PLUS, for us ladies, helps keep us clean between showers when we’re on our periods.

just sayin’.

so, how does the Hello Tushy bidet work exactly?

Growing up, I was actually used to a separate dedicated bidet that had it’s own plumbing lines. But with the Tushy attachment, my mind a-buzzed with questions as to how it…well…cleaned things down there.

Long story short, no, the Tushy bidet does not use toilet water already in the toilet bowl to wash you. That would be counterproductive- and pretty nasty.

Much to my relief, the portable bidet attachment actually connects to the main water valve in your toilet before entering the bowl. Which means you are getting some fresh-as-hell water to shoot up your butt.

The basic anatomy of the Tushy pretty much consists of a knob that controls water pressure, a slider to control the angle of the nozzle (aka the direction the water stream will go), toilet aligners to help you reattach and align, and a nozzle.

How do you install the Tushy/Tushy Spa?

When it comes to portable bidet, Hello Tushy provides 2 types: The Tushy Classic which just utilizes the cold fresh water supply and the Tushy Spa which uses both hot water (from the sink hot water valve) and cold water from the fresh water supply.

However, for the sake of this review, the installation concept is still pretty much the same premise -- which is removing the toilet seat, connecting the Tushy to the water supplies, placing the Tushy attachment on the bowl, align, and attach the toilet seat cover back atop the Tushy. I even pulled an infographic from Hello Tushy showing you the basic configuration.

And just to show you the details of the unboxing, the pieces you will get, and the overall installation process, I included a video of me installing the Tushy Spa bidet attachment. It was an experience to say the least!

Tushy Bidet Review: UNBOXING + INSTALLATION + REACTION

How long does it take to install the Tushy bidet?

Sooooo according to Hello Tushy, installing these bad boys reportedly takes 10-20 minutes to install.

and, I struggled for 7 hours trying to put this all together.

Now granted, I was ill-equipped with my tools, had trouble finding a vital o-ring washer that was nestled inside another valve, and basically struggle-bussed like no one’s business.

But, knowing what I know now and what to look for, yes, installing this was not that bad at all. I would probably venture a guess to say that it may take you about an hour to install if we’re being super realistic.

How do you actually use this thing?

There are two settings for the water flow which are controlled by a knob. Turn the knob to the left and that washes the nozzle (which is super handy when you want to keep things clean and sanitary). Turn the knob to the right and that creates a stream of water that will direct itself to your bum.

Under the knob is a slider mechanism that can actually adjust the angle of the nozzle so you don’t have to constantly readjust yourself to get the stream to go where it needs to go. Pretty neat, considering I am now 9 months pregnant and moving around is a HASSLE and a half.

How do you dry after a bidet?

I have actually found two good ways to dry after using the bidet.

One is simply using a little toilet paper and patting dry. Another is using microfiber towels (Hello Tushy has really nice bamboo soft ones) and patting dry with those. Notice how I say patting dry, not wiping.

and if you’re a bit worried like I was if there would be any -- tire marks -- left on the towel, you’ll be relieved to know that every pat leaves no trace.

And this is simply because once you have cleaned your butt with water, the poo is gone, yo.

How much is the Tushy Bidet?

Depending on the model Hello Tushy bidet attachment you get, you are looking at two different price points.

  • Tushy Classic: $79
  • Tushy Spa: $99

and just in case you needed a side-by-side comparison, here is a handy little infographic.

I personally prefer the Tushy Spa bidet, simply because it includes a hot water feature, which makes my toilet going experience a heck-of-a-lot more comfortable and pleasant.

And may I also mention that we have significantly cut down our use of toilet paper by at least half! That’s money saved right there 🙂

Is the Hello Tushy Bidet worth it?

After all the time, sweat, and almost tears of installing this product to my toilet, I can say with confidence that I thoroughly enjoy using the Tushy bidet. Like, I really really love it.

Even to the point where I encourage my guests to use it and wait eagerly for their post-poop reports. They loved it too (even though I may have creeped them out a bit with my toilet enthusiasm).

If you are someone who is looking to save money on toilet paper, reduce your carbon footprint, save some trees, alleviate your hemorrhoids and yeast infections, and just generally feel clean after every toilet visit, I highly recommend you try the Tushy bidet.

As an added bonus, for this review, I personally worked out a deal with Hello Tushy to give all my readers $5 off by following this link and entering code TUSHY5OFF so this can give you that extra savings for your health!
