What is Intermittent Fasting and Why it’s a Game-Changer


Does Intermittent fasting sounds totally scary to You???

At first, I thought the same thing, especially with my bad history of failed diet fads. But, after some research and my own trial and error with this dieting lifestyle, I have grown to fall in love with the intermittent fasting ritual.

So what is intermittent fasting?

Intermittent fasting is simply a timing thing. You eat for a limited block of time and fast for a limited block of time. There are multiple variations of intermittent fasting, but the one I am talking about today is the 16:8 fasting, meaning I fast for 16 hours and eat within an 8 hour block of time.

Do you wake up hungry?

Currently, I do not wake up ravenous anymore. My first week of trying intermittent fasting was a bit tough, especially since I was switching gears and trying something new. This always happens to me whenever I try ANY new diet, so this was something I expected to happen to me.

How much do you eat when you are Intermittent Fasting?

OK, the AMOUNT of food I eat has NOT changed. I repeat. I eat the SAME AMOUNT OF FOOD, the only difference is I eat within an 8-hour time block. So what does this mean? It means I eat a larger VOLUME of meals, which totally makes me happy.

Can Intermittent Fasting Help with WeightLoss?

To answer this quickly, Yes. Intermittent fasting does help with weight and fat loss. HOWEVER, one of the main reasons I chose IF is for the long-term health benefits. One thing I NEVER recommend is cutting out significant macros from your diet while doing Intermittent fasting. Of course, I always agree with eating the RIGHT foods in the RIGHT amounts, but I do not condone significant calorie cuts for the sake of a quick weight-loss fix. Intermittent Fasting is a lifestyle diet change, NOT a quick fix to look good in a bikini. I would not make your body undergo such a state temporarily. So really think about how serious you are about your health and body (and do your own research!!!) before jumping straight into IF.

What are the health benefits of Intermittent Fasting?

When our bodies are in the fasted state aka “not digesting food”, our bodies kick into major restorations with concentrated efforts on cellular repair, gene expression changes (aka altering the chances of genetic disposition to cancers and diseases), as well as lower insulin and higher human growth hormone in your blood levels that help to create a fat-burning, muscle-producing machine inside you.

I am still experimenting and learning more and more about this new diet lifestyle, but one thing I will say is out of all my diet experiments, this one is by far the easiest to follow. Besides timing, I have done nothing else to change up my dieting habits. I still eat whole foods (and a LOT of it), and I make sure to eat them within a 8 hour time-frame. My body feels energetic, lighter, and I just cannot stop staring at my mirror!

But the BIGGEST Lesson I learned? Your body will not wither away and die from IF. We have ultra-amazing bodies that are capable of so much more than we give them credit for!
